Climate change activists who have caused major disruption to the UK’s busiest roadway in the last five weeks have suspended their campaign to advance to COP26.
Insulate Britain has blocked the M25 at least 13 days in the past five weeks as they call on the government to introduce heat-saving measures in social housing.
The group, an offshoot of the Extinction Rebellion, headed to the motorway roads surrounding London to block cars in protest of carbon emissions.
“Insulate Britain would like to take this opportunity to fully acknowledge the disruption caused by the past five weeks,” the environmental group said in an open letter written to the Prime Minister Boris Johnson, “the group said in a statement.
“Ahead of COP26, Insulate Britain will suspend the civil resistance campaign until Monday October 25.”
They did so while admitting they violated a High Court order that slapped them last month and in which they risked jail if they blocked the passage again.
The group, an offshoot of Extinction Rebellion, has made headlines on several occasions in recent weeks as they block traffic on the M25 as they campaign for a cut in carbon emissions.

Insulate Britain’s announcement came a day after it clashed with angry motorists in Essex.
A mother humiliated protesters by stopping her from delivering her 11-year-old son to school.
Lorry drivers blew their horns and a female protester was nearly run over by a frustrated motorist as the environmental campaign group blocked the roads at the 13th hour.
Multiple confrontations took place around 8.30am, with demonstrators being pulled from the roads by drivers near a busy industrial estate in Thurrock.
The group blocked parts of major roads around London, including the M25 and M4, to draw attention to climate change.
