We Have ‘Idol Worshipers in the Senate’ Who Think They Need to ‘Not Offend the Philibuster’

On Saturday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “PoliticsNation,” Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) that there are “idol worshipers in the Senate” who “practice idolatry” by believing “they shouldn’t interfere with the filibuster.”

Cleaver said, “[W]there are some idol worshipers in the Senate. They practice idolatry. They believed, somehow, that the filibuster had been brought down from Sinai, and that they should not interfere with the filibuster. And if they can get rid of the filibuster, other than criminal reform, voting rights, and this emergency Build Back Better and our bipartisan bill that can be done, we can do what we need to do to move people to a better place. Of all the things that I think I’m just disgusted with I see Sen. McCain’s cinema thumbs a $ 15 minimum wage – poor people and black and brown, that’s a slap in the face to us. “
