The Patriots ’offensive line will feature multiple backups for Sunday’s game against the Texans.
Starting with left tackle Isaiah Wynn and starting left guard Michael Onwenu were not active on the Reserve / COVID-19 list prior to the team’s trip to Houston, which ruled them out of the game on Sunday.
Wynn and Onwenu joined in starting right tackle Trent Brown (calf) and starting right guard Shaq Mason (chest) as the offensive linemen started to miss Sunday’s game.
Brown was placed on the injured reserve on Saturday, which ruled him out for the Patriots ’next three games. The right tackle hasn’t been playing since the Patriots ’opening drive to their season-opening loss to the Dolphins.
The Patriots have struggled to replace Brown since he dropped out in Week 1. Justin Herron and Yasir Durant filled in for Brown, with both players switching times due to poor play.
In Brown on IR, the Patriots will also lose him for their fights against the Cowboys and Jets. In Week 2’s game against the Jets, Durant allowed three first-half sacks before getting benched for Herron.
Yodny Cajuste is likely to start on the left tackle in place of Wynn as he is listed second on the unofficial depth chart for the position. Ted Karras is listed as backup in the same outpost position, making it likely he started at either the left outpost or right outpost. The Patriots called off offensive linemen James Ferentz, Alex Redmond, and Will Sherman from the training squad on Saturday.
Defensive back Jalen Mills and defensive end Ronnie Perkins were also ruled out for Sunday’s game.
