BOSTON (CBS) – The clock is ticking and the final countdown to the Marathon is underway Monday. On Saturday, Fan Fest is busy with eager runners to buy gear and enjoy in Boston in the fall.
“It’s very beautiful. I like fall running. This is my favorite time of the year, ”runner Tonya MacNeil said.
Hundreds of runners crammed into the finish line to get a snapshot of this historic race with their bibs. Fan Fest was filled with energy.
2014 Boston Marathon champion Meb Keflezighi took a photo with the runners. He said this city touched his heart.
“I was just lucky to be a part of that journey. And for me, 2014 was a magical moment. I am in this world for a purpose to inspire people and I definitely feel it, ”Keflezighi said.
Mary Gilles is a charity runner just $ 1,000 away from her $ 20,000 goal.
“I’m running for Think Important Boston. This is for kids within the city paired with two-on-one mentoring. So it’s like college prep, ”Gilles said.
A pool of fewer runners and increased safety measures are in place, including a first – a marathon vaccination validation and tent test.
“It certainly makes a lot of sense to runners to make it safe,” MacNeil said. “As a runner, it was a rough go and I ran through the pandemic. So it was great to leave it on course and give everything I got.”
And that’s all anyone of all these runners can ask.
You can do it watch the Boston Marathon live on Monday, Oct. 11 on CBSBoston.com and WBZ-TV. Coverage begins at 4:30 p.m.
