The volcano on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands continued to spew lava on Saturday morning, after almost three weeks of constant eruption.
Authorities said molten rock from the crater now flows down a so-called lava tube underneath the previous hardened lava, directly into the sea.
The lava tube has allayed fears that it could spread further and cause more destruction.
Quick evacuations have helped avoid casualties from the eruption, and most of the island of around 85,000 people has not been affected.
The volcanic Canary Islands lie off the northwest coast of Africa.
