KNOX, Indiana – A search dog helped find a 74-year-old woman missing for seven hours in a wooded area of northwestern Indiana.
The woman was located around 1 a.m. Friday, less than a mile from her home in Knox, southwest of South Bend.
She was reported missing Thursday afternoon after walking back and forth to a neighbor’s home, The (Northwest Indiana) Times reported.
Authorities believe the woman took a wrong turn and became confused, said Porter County Fire Chief Jay Craig, who is a companion of the dog.
A search and rescue team and Jakob, the tracking dog, began searching for the woman around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Jakob located her scent around 1 a.m. Friday and followed her to the woman who was pulled out of the woods in an ATV.
“She was weak,” Craig said.
