While there are no closures to report this week, one is coming up. September 30th Brass tacks announced that it would close the downtown bar on October 10. “They’ve spent a couple of years trying to swim against the tide with COVID and dwindling business and difficult staff and all of that stuff,” says co-owner Stuart Jensen. “We just had to analyze it carefully and realize that it was no longer in the cards and that it was better for us and for all our sanity to stop trying to fight.”
While the effects of COVID continue to have a major impact on the hotel industry, particularly in the city center, where many workers have not yet returned, other areas of the city continue to evolve. On Larimer Street in RiNo, a New York-inspired restaurant, Greenwich opened this week, as did a second location for the Indian outlet Himchuli. And in nearby Number Thirty-Eight, the emerging Split Lip, birthed by the pandemic, found a new home for its hyper-regional cuisine.
On East 17th Avenue, wine bar Mouth It now serves wine alongside a menu that includes French classics like croque madame and mayonnaise oeufs alongside boards of cheese and cold cuts. Across town on Tennyson Street, De Steeg Brewing became Berkeley Alley Beer Company this week, under new owners Matt Kirchhevel and Ty Kain.
And there is a new reason to visit Larimer Square. Handsome Boys Hospitality by Josh Schmitz Continue your tour there with a Halloween-themed pop-up bar called Spirits that will be open every day until the end of the month.
