The U.S. stopped 14 Mexican soldiers from accidentally crossing the border

Fourteen Mexican soldiers were detained on the El Paso border on Saturday when they accidentally crossed into the United States, Customs and Border Protection said.

One soldier was cited in possession of marijuana for personal use, CBP said in a statement, and all were returned to Mexico within five hours.

Border Patrol agents were on the American bridge crossing El Paso just after midnight when they noticed Mexican military vehicles crossing the international border, the agency said.

They arrested 14 soldiers who were inside the vehicles.

“Soldiers, weapons and equipment have been secured for safety and processing,” CBP said. “Soldiers advised that they were unaware they had entered the US”

Contacted Mexican military leaders and the soldiers and their equipment were returned to Mexico by 5 am, CBP said.

The Mexico Secretariat of National Defense did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

U.S. officials announced Friday that one camp had many 15,000 migrants was cleared out. The area under a bridge in Del Rio, Texas, is the temporary home of Haitians who are expected to be welcomed into the United States.
