There is more than one reason to celebrate independence: accounting.

Cinco de Mayo is not your Independence Day. It commemorates the Battle of Puebla, which took place decades before they achieved their independence. It is not celebrated much in Mexico and in the United States it is seen as an excuse to party.

Until July 4, sure? I guess there are probably people who use it as an excuse to party, just like Americans with Cinco de Mayo.
