Tokyo Olympics: German women’s gymnastics team wears full-length suits

Kim Bui and her teammates wore the outfits during qualifying on Sunday.

German gymnasts wore full-length suits in the women’s qualification at the Olympics while continuing their position against the sexualization of their sport.

Voss was joined by Pauline Schaefer-Betz, Elisabeth Seitz and Kim Bui wearing the red and white outfits that stretched to her ankles on Sunday.

Body suits defy convention, most gymnasts opt for a leotard and those who cover their legs at international competitions do so for religious reasons.

The German team had worn similar outfits during practice last week, and three-time Olympian Seitz said at the time that it was all about “what feels comfortable.”

“We wanted to show that every woman, everyone, should decide what to wear,” she said.
